Donuts Instead of Wedding Cake? Yes! A Post for Etsy Weddings

Quite honestly, if I had it to do all over again I’d want a tiers of donuts instead of cake at my wedding reception. I love the lighthearted approach and who doesn’t swoon at the sight of a delicious donut – especially those made from scratch!

Today I’m sharing my favorite recipe for yeast raised donuts on the Etsy Weddings Blog!

Click over to for step-by-step instructions and tips on how to stack them in pretty tiers.

I think it'd look stunning but my only hesitation would be that the best doughnuts are only at their best for 12 hours, maybe stretching to 24, after they're made. Which means a LOT of doughnut making on the morning of the wedding! 🙂

I want those doughnuts now. Fairly certain I could put away that whole plate right now (studying for exams = stress). They look gorgeous!

I saw an article recently suggesting them for a kid's table (glazed, though, with a flattened cupcake wrapper between them to stop them sticking) but why the heck should kids have all the fun??

I think more people are moving from traditional wedding cakes into the cupcake stacks and these donuts would be a really cool idea, I'm gonna go check em out 🙂

Your recipe instructions on the site read: "Switch to a dough hook and add more flour gradually, about 1/4 cup at a time with the mixer turned off."

Confused about the 1/4 cup at a time with the mixer off. did you mean "low"?

and can these rise overnight in the refrigerator, then be finished in the morning?

Yes! Sorry for the confusion. I'll contact Etsy for the change. Thanks for bringing that to my attention.

Yes! I love it when people do doughnuts, or whatever they actually love, instead of cake.
Seattle has a GREAT vegan doughnut shop, so good that everyone eats them and not everyone knows they are vegan!
Anyway, I've shot a few weddings of vegan couples and Mighty-O's doughnuts are a great way to have a desert EVERYONE can eat and enjoy.
