And I love dessert!

Welcome to my world of nonpareils! I started this blog in 2009 to share my love of all things sweet.

I'm a Tennessee girl with a background in fine arts and for many years I was an aspiring painter. Most of my employed life has been spent creating fine art paintings and working in galleries for artisans of every stripe - painters, sculptors, glass blowers, illustrators, print makers and textile artists- just to name a few!  I still paint, but my journey into the confectionery world has changed the relationship I have with my own creativity. I'm most fulfilled when lost in a cloud of powdered sugar, assembling desserts that are as artful as they are delicious.

SprinkleBakes is a place where I tell all my baking secrets. It's where I keep my original dessert recipes, adaptations and family favorites. There's a definite focus on making dessert beautiful, and adding art elements to baked goods is a common theme here. You'll find plenty of tutorials and step-by-step instructions so you can incorporate them into your baking, too!

The name was born from my love of rainbow nonpareils. They remind me to have fun in life and to not take things too seriously. They are joyful, colorful, interesting, special.  And concerning dessert, that's just how I like it!

I wrote a book!

If you leave a question in one of my posts, I will make every effort to reply.  Most likely the response will be in the same post (so check back!) or if you have a blog I will leave a comment there.

I currently use a Canon EOS 60D Canon EOS 5D Mark III, and I rarely remove the 50mm 1.4 lens. I started out with a Canon Rebel which is a very good first camera if you're just beginning your journey into the DLSR realm. I love my new 5D, but I really miss the swivel screen on my 60D and overall think it's better for food blogging purposes.
I'm a sucker for throwback cameras too, like the FujiFilm Instax Mini that instantly spits out a little business card-sized photos -much like a Polaroid! I'm sticking a toe in the water with lomography at the moment, too. I have a little Diana F+ that's fun and I enjoy working without the digital safety net.
