One year ago I was baking up a scratch-made confetti cake for this blog's first birthday. Not only was it fun to make - in a fling-sprinkles-everywhere kind of way - it was incredibly well received. Many of you made your own version and sent me pictures of the happiest faces behind lit candles, which makes me more than a little teary as I type this. Words can't express how special those emails are. They are a gift to me.
Here we are at year two! I wanted this year's cake to be just as special and sprinkle-filled as the last, but I wasn't exactly sure how to go about doing that - until I discovered Sixlets.
Have you heard of Sixlets? They're like sprinkles, only bigger, and instead of solid candy they are a mixture of chocolate and carob wrapped in a candy shell. A little like M&M candies but different, round. They are sold by the pound in solid colors, metallics and color assortments. I'm tellin' you, it's a sprinkle lover's dream come true! I stacked them high to the tippy-top of this cake for ultimate sprinkle-coverage!
The inside of the cake holds a birthday-blue sprinkle swirl, just like my favorite birthday cake ice cream.
This recipe makes a lot of cake batter - about 14 cups, and you'll need a stand mixer to make it...
...so I'm giving one away!
Contest is now closed, thanks for entering!
Here's a few more details about the cake.
If you've been sticking around here for a while, then you know I love a good scratch-made cake, so you may be surprised to know that this cake is not completely scratch-made. It's Rebecca Sutterby's famous White Almond Sour Cream cake (WASC, as it has come to be known) - and it's the absolute best cake for creating beautiful consistent color. I knew my blue swirl would really stand out in this batter! It's also a great choice for a pristine white wedding cake sans food coloring. It is moist, delicious and feeds a crowd!
Edit: Beautiful Sixlets cakes are showing up in my email and on my Facebook page! Check out these gorgeous color combinations!!

Silver, blue and Lavender Sixlets cake by Chantell Lindner of This Lil Piece of Heaven.
Lime, blue and purple Sixlets cake by Rebecca Nebel. Just, beautiful!!

The Sprinkle Bakes Sixlets Cake
Cake portion adapted from Rebecca Sutterby's WASC [click for printable version]
Cake:
2
boxes white cake mix
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups granulated sugar
1 ½ tsp salt
2 2/3 cups water
1/4 cup vegetable oil
2 tsp real vanilla
2 tsp almond extract
2 cups (16 oz) sour cream
8 large egg whites
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups granulated sugar
1 ½ tsp salt
2 2/3 cups water
1/4 cup vegetable oil
2 tsp real vanilla
2 tsp almond extract
2 cups (16 oz) sour cream
8 large egg whites
½ tsp Wilton sky blue food
coloring
¾ cup multicolored jimmies (the kind
you find in the ice cream section of the grocery store will hold up well in the
batter)
2 lbs. Sixlets candies
Various and sundry sprinkles of
your choosing for the top of the cake
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
- Grease five 7-inch cake pans and line with parchment. You may also choose to use four 9” cake pans.
- Place all dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl and stir together with a wire whisk. Add the remaining ingredients and beat on a low speed for 2 minutes until smooth.
- Remove 6 cups of batter and tint with the sky blue food coloring. Add the multicolored jimmies to the blue batter and fold gently to combine.
- Pour batter in pans, alternating blue and white batters. Pull a knife or skewer through the batter to create a swirl. Bake cakes for 40 -50 minutes, or until cake springs back when pressed in the middle.
Icing:
8 egg whites
1
cup sugar
Pinch
of salt
32
tbsp. (1 lb. or 4 US sticks) unsalted butter, cubed
2
tsp. clear vanilla extract
- Set a saucepan filled 1/3 full of water over
medium high heat and bring to a simmer.
- Whisk together egg whites, sugar and salt in a
heat-proof bowl. Set over simmering
water and whisk until mixture is hot and sugar has dissolved.
- Transfer to the bowl of a stand mixer fitted
with the whisk attachment.
- Beat on low speed for 2 minutes, then
increasing to medium-high until stiff peaks are formed.
- Continue beating at medium-high speed until
mixture is fluffy and has cooled.
- Remove whisk attachment and replace with paddle attachment
- Decrease mixer speed and add butter, a little at a time, beating until well incorporated before the next addition.
- Add vanilla extract.
- Beat until icing is smooth. Increase speed if icing is slow to firm.
Assembly
- Ice cakes and stack them, making sure the edges are as even as possible. Apply an even coating of icing to the outside of the stacked cakes using an off-set spatula, filling any gaps and crevices.
- Starting at the bottom of the cake, gently push sixlets into the icing. Create a line of alternating colors (or use a solid color, your choice!) To achieve the graduated swirl, use colors in the same order on the second line, but move the first color over one space to the right. Continue this pattern all the way up the cake. By the time you’re done, (about 1 hour 20 minutes) you’ll be in a hypnotic state from applying sixlets sprinkles. This process is very meditative – enjoy the zen!
- Sprinkle the top of the cake with various and sundry. Add a sparkler if you’re into pyrotechnics…which I certainly am!

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 400 of 1580 Newer› Newest»I love your cake, it's so bright and fantastic!! The best birthday gift I ever got was a beautiful amethyst necklace my husband and son picked for me. I was completely surprised and its so pretty!
I subscribe through google connect!
My fave bday gift was when my hubs and I first moved in together. He attempted to bake me a cake (for the first time ever), and when I came home, I found him cleaning batter out of the oven because he put an entire batch of batter in one 9" round pan. :) I think it was the most thoughtful attempt at a bday present that I've ever received.
I can not stop looking at that AMAZING cake! I love it. My favorite favorite birthday present was to myself, a bullhorn! Hahaha I had so much fun with that thing. Now come on random.org, give me some luck; I've never had a stand mixer!
The best birthday gift I received was a trip to Disney World and a Disney gift card. Fun!
love your beautiful confections!
the best birthday gift I ever received was a dinner created by my best friend who is also an amazing chef... I had just returned from my honeymoon in Costa Rica and she made many of the local caribbean inspired dishes that my husband and I had raved about... sharing that with a few good friends was wonderful!
My best birthday present was a pair of Red Sox tickets, three rows up from first base. Thought now I'm spoiled and can't sit int he bleachers anymore :)
I am subscribed! My best birthday present was a trip to Italy from my then-boyfriend. Although, he topped himself a couple years later by proposing to me the day before my birthday and secretly flying my best friend in from Chicago so she could be here for my birthday party the next day. That wasn't totally a b-day present though, right?
Just subscribed via GFC. So glad I found your site. I love sixlets!! And they look gorgeous on you cake. I received one of the bestest b-day presents in 1999...my twin daughters. They were born 9 days before my birthday and came home from the hospital 2 days before my 35th birthday.
subscribed!
best birthday gift was this year for my birthday we took a family trip to Chicago, we didn't do anything extravagant just spent the day visiting our favorite places, eating Chicago style hotdogs, and just spending time all together... it was PERFECT!!
Happy Birthday!!! This cake is Beautiful! I'm going to try to recreate soon. I have been asking for a KitchenAid mixer for about three years now! When I was 16 my best friend moved away to Texas (I lived in California) about 6 months before my birthday. When my birthday came around my doorbell rang and when I answered it there she was on my doorstep. She was the best birthday present ever and I can't believe everyone kept it a secret for months!
So far my best birthday gift was just purchased a few days ago... my Kindle - absolutely in love with it.
I got married on my birthday, so I like to think my husband is the best present I ever got! :)
the best birthday present ive given to my boyfriend is a round trip to the french alps (we are expats living in france but im a canadian resident)..Sorry back to the story. the trip was a surprise bungee jump for the both of us off a 103m bridge! we camped over the weekend (might i add that i dont have the most nature inclined boyfriend ever)! he was so stoked the entire time..i wonder what i will get from him ;)
This year is my big 3-0! Well I thought I would just pass over it as though it really didn't happen and I honestly thought I was successful at it. Until Saturday rolled around and my husband had 90 (plus) people in our backyard ready to celebrate. That was the best birthday present EVER!
Congrats Heather! ♥
My best ever birthday present... spending time with my family. My boys and the hubs always do a great job of taking care of me and making me feel special on my birthday! ♥
dyson vacuum! best day of my LIFE!
I subscribed! First, that cake is amazing! I love it. Secondly, the best birthday gift to me was a party. My birthday is in January and all I've ever wanted was a pool party. A few years ago it was oddly warm in January so my husband threw together a last minute pool party for me in Palm Springs. It meant the world to me that he remembered how I said I wanted a pool party. :)
I am an official subscriber and have been a fan for a long while now! Love the Sixlets cake to pieces!!! That must have taken some serious time to cover.
My best bday gift was a surprise party at my childhood ice skating rink before it was closed down. That old wooden party room with the giant pink ice skating squirrels and other woodland creatures peeling their painted selves off the walls makes me smile to this day. What a nice party my friends threw!
I used to love Sixlets! I think they've changed them now tho :o\
My best birthday gift was just this year... a brand new dishwasher!
This cake is so cute! The best gift for me is one I haven't received, is that mixer! lol I'm in culinary school, and can not afford to buy a decent mixer right now, my fiance has to drag me away from the mixer section a Macy's every time we walk in.
I have loved Sixlets for most of my life. There used to be an old general store near my hometown in Idaho that still carried penny candy when I was a child. We would fill our small, brown paper bash with sixlets, chick-o-sticks, and oodles of other goodies.
My favorite birthday gift? Hmmm...there are too many to recall but one of my very favorites was given to me at age 5. My mother (I think it was my mom) bought me a pair of patten leather Mary Janes (from the JC Penny's catalog) in every color of the rainbow. I remember having red, pink, navy, black, yellow, baby blue, green, & white. Even then my love of shoes and all things feminine was evident. My husband wishes that a pair of shoes from JC Penny's would suffice these days. :)
I've never really had THAT amazing of a birthday gift. Christmas was always the bigger gifts. I wouldn't mind getting a digital camera for this upcoming birthday though ;)
For my 14th birthday, my mom decided I should take a cake decorating class. I loved it and it led to my baking obsession, so it was the best birthday present ever.
I subscribed to email. I don't have a favorite birthday present so far, but my birthday is in Oct. and I have high hopes for this year!
My best birthday gift would probably be this year - I got an iPad and am obsessed! Would lovvvve to win this mixer, with which I would be equally obsessed :)
Beautiful cake...Just signed up for the email newsletter. Best birthday ever, this year ....if I win the mixer :)
Tgray
:(....I'm writing from Italy!!!!! Anyway your cake is gorgeous and the present for me..... every day of my wonderful life!!! hugs, Flavia
My best birthday gift ever was to myself! I bought myself a trip to Costa Rica for this January!!!!
I just discovered this blog and I love it! My best birthday gift was a pair of Bon Jovi tickets! By the way - love this birthday cake!!!
Was a dinner party for my 26th birthday. Wonderful friends, food, and an amazing birthday cake! Followed by a night of dancing! Ah to be young.
I just joined via GFC. My favorite birthday present is getting to go to an MLB game. My birthday is in April, near the beginning of baseball season and so my husband or mom usually get me tickets to see my favorite team, the Cardinals (who just won the NL Wild Card last night!). We don't live near a ballpark, so getting to go to a game once a year is my special treat!
This cake is just so cute that I would like to try my hand at it. Do you have any recommendations on how to slice the cake without destroying the sixlet design?
My best birthday gift was getting to spend a weekend in Vegas with my man!
Happy Birthday! That cake is amazing!
My best birthday present was a weekend vacation to NYC to stay with a friend and go see a concert (Ted Leo), something I gave myself! (A close second was a set of tickets to see NIN from my boyfriend!)
This is absolutely beautiful! Happy Blogoversary!!! I would love to win this beautiful mixer :) The best present I ever received...that is a tough one! My husband bought me a new camera for Christmas last year which was extremely thoughtful. He put so much research into which would be the best one for life photos and food photography!
happy birthday!!! birthday's are my favorite bc they are YOUR holiday! My favorite gift was a new bicycle when i was about 7 or 8 years old from my mom and dad! i also have a monogrammed apron from my sister in law that i love too!
Well Happiest Blog Birthday wishes to you!! This cake is just too much fun!
Best birthday present was a Cadillac escalade my husband surprised me with. Best surprise Ever!
That cake is amazing!I literally wish I could reach through the screen and grab a slice. Wow!!! So, I am thinking the best birthday gift I have received was this month(September 14th is my bday) My daughters are 13 and 17 and they took me out to my favorite vintage shops and watched as I looked around oohing and ahhing over my favorite things. While I waited in the car they purchased items they thought I loved the most. They ended up buying me an amazing set of vintage antlers and a gorgeous silver serving tray. It was so thoughtful and so much fun! Congrats on your anniversary. I adore your blog and all you delish creations!Oh and btw that mixer would change my life haha.
My niece, who was born almost two years ago, right before my 27th birthday, was the best birthday present ever :)
The best birthday gift I've received was a ATV excursion in Puerto Vallarta. I was on a cruise to Mexico and my friend set up an all-day ride on ATVs in the jungle-like mountains of Puerto Vallarta. It was amazing!
This cake looks amazing! My birthday is in a week, and I think I'll try making this for myself. =) Anyways, I've had a few really great birthday gifts over the years. My top two favorites though would have to be my sewing machine given to me for my 15th birthday, and last year I was given a coffee traveler that says, "Donuts make my brown eyes brew." It has sprinkled donuts all over it and I love it.
My favourite birthday present was a poster my designer boyfriend made for me for my 25th birthday telling me how much he loved me. He included all of our favourite things on the poster too and even had it framed! When I showed my mom she started bawling - I think he's a keeper :)
The best birthday gift I've received was a necklace from my parents when I turned 16. Not fancy, but meaningful!
The best gift I ever received was a mix tape with a 20pg letter attached. He had typed out the lyrics to every song and told me why he loved them.
Wow Happy Blog Birthday! I love love love love love the cake! It's too cute!
I think the best birthday gift I will ever receive will be my first baby. I am currently 5 1/2 months pregnant and I'm due a little bit after my birthday. I'm so excited for my son to come!
Your cake is gorgeous! I can't believe how amazing all the Sixlets look stacked up the side of the cake!
For my birthday, I want a stand mixer. I have been asking for one for years. I'm a holiday baking fiend and I make cookie plates for all my friends each year with at least 7 different kinds of cookies/candy/bread. You can ask anyone in my family how much I want a stand mixer. I mention every birthday and every year I get my hopes up. *sigh* I'm excited you are giving a mixer away for your bithday! It's the perfect gift and SO generous.
The best birthday gift I have ever received was getting to spend my entire birthday with my mother! I love her and do not live close or have the means to visit often, so it was an amazing day! Love the cake you made!!
OMG, looks fantastic !
Beautiful cake! You're inspiring!
Well my best present... I come from a large, busy family and my birthday is during the holidays. Sadly, my sweet 16th birthday was forgotten by everyone except my BFF who, later in the evening, brought me a huge, heart-shaped chocolate chip cookie with a candle right in the middle. She made my day! My parents felt terrible and I had a midnight party - which wasn't so bad after all!
the best birthday gift i ever received was the telescope my boyfriend got me on my 23rd birthday. : )
Subscribed + liked :)
My favorite, and BEST birthday gift i've ever received was a surprise party. Unlike all my other surprise parties, this one actually surprised me. During my party, my sister batched up a cake for me, and it was outstanding. Later on i found out that she got the recipe, from the one and only Sprinkle bakes. What she did was put two of my favorite things together to make a HUGE tiramisushi cake. :D it was absolutely beautiful, delicious, and AWESOME. ever since then, i can't stop coming on your blog.
yum! sixlets are my absolute favorite.
when I was a kid, I got an easy bake oven for my birthday...those were the best! (well, they were at the time :)
My best birthday gift is my iPad 2 from my hubby, now I am not tied to the computer desk and keeps my children entertained. Looking forward whenever the kids get older, planning to fly to new York city, working hard on saving monies for that gift for my hubby!
For my 30th birthday my husband & I decided to try to have a baby. For my 31st birthday, I will be 3 months pregnant! Best gift ever!
My best birthday gift is just the most important thing--getting to have another birthday. After having cancer twice every year I get is truly the best gift ever!
Love your blog. I just love all things sweet, like you :-)
I would love to get all the seasons of all the Star Trek series for my birthday. Also, that cake because it looks fantastic! :)
Best birthday gift ever was my rainbow knee high socks, they are ridiculous and fun and something that I usually never would get, they also started my now ridiculous sized sock collection.
I think one of my favorite birthday presents to myself was making my very first German Chocolate Cake with a coconut frosting. It was excellent by the way. :)
I'm a Google Friend Subscriber. :)
Jenna H.
I would have to say the best gift I've received was a surprise party thrown for me three years ago.....friends from all over the us showed up and I was smiling for weeks
The best birthday gift I ever received was just this year - a beautiful, custom-made, gold and grey diamond ring by Satomi Kawakita... which also happens to be my engagement ring :) (Ok, so technically it was a few weeks before my birthday, but it totally counts!)
And if I won this Kitchen Aid mixer, it would definitely be the best wedding gift ever!
OMG this cake looks unreal...just gorgeous...
My best gift was by my sweet husband. The first birthday as a married couple,he took me on a 10 day trip to the west coast.I have the best memories...and we have never had the time to ever take such a long vacation.
My best present (to myself :D )has been my Nook. I love being able to take a virtual library with me where ever I go!
I'm a subscriber! And I remember last year's bday cake - has it really been 12 months?!
My best birthday gift ... I remember being the most excited about a handmade Barbie wedding gown my grandmother gave me when I turned, I think, 6? I have photos of me opening it, in a special box with tissue paper and such! I was so proud!
The best gift I've gotten was a love letter from my boyfriend that makes me laugh every time I read it.
Just Subscribed via email.
This cake looks so cool!!
I'd have to say my best birthday present ever was when my friend took me to NY to see the Rockettes Christmas show and we were able to go backstage because her Aunt was a Rockette. So cool :)
the best gift i was ever given was an unexpected cake that my friends baked for me. i was totally caught off guard by it. not only was it a blessing, but it was delicious too!!! homemade hazelnut frosting...ridiculous!
I'm already a subscriber and not only that but I own the Foodista cookbook where one of your recipes is included. I love your blog.
The best birthday gift was tickets to a sold out Marc Anthony concert that came with diamond studs!!
My best birthday gift ever was last year, when my husband wanted to make memories rather than one big gift. It was truly the best, we started the day at the zoo, then went to lunch and the spent 6 hours at one of those paint your own pottery places. It was amazing! We use our plates almost daily and it reminds me of how great it was to turn 25!
Domrulestheworld at gmail dot com
One of the best birthday gifts I ever got was a beautiful night out in Seattle with the woman I love!
This wasn't for my "real" birthday but since mt name is Autumn, my mother would celebrate the autumnal equinox for me. Every year we would get maple iced donuts with leaf sprinkles from Dunkin donuts and it was my favorite day, better than my actually birthday. But I went vegan about 3 years ago now and. Miss the donuts. This year though my mother made me vegan donuts with homemade icing and of course little leaf sprinkles. Perfect!
The best gift I've ever received was the box set of Peewee's Playhouse DVDs from my boyfriend (now husband). I'd been asking for it my whole life. (and yes, I cried a little. I'm weird like that.)
Happy Blogoversary!
My best present was a little teddy bear that my then-best-friend gave me when I was four. He picked it out himself! lol
The best birthday gift ever is every birthday I get to spend with my family :)
dkimball@rohan.sdsu.edu
Ever since I can remember my mother has made me a birthday cake from scratch. Not only were these delicious, but when I was about three they started getting really interesting. The very first one I can remember was a Beauty and the Beast cake, complete with figures and icing-covered ice cream cones for castle towers. Each year I was banned from the kitchen on my birthday as she worked on my surprise cake. I've had Lion King and Mary Popins cakes, one with a complicated carousel on top, a Confederation Bridge cake ( We summer in Prince Edward Island, and my birthday is in July), as well as many other cakes that were not themes but just plain beautiful.
I turned 22 this summer, and even though I had long outgrown the theme birthday cake, my mother presented me with a small box after she had unveiled the cake for the party. With some leftover batter she had made a small cake that was a perfect replica of the one Hagrid gives Harry for his 11th birthday. The box was even smooshed a little. She knew that I, being the Harry Potter fanatic I was, would recognize it immediately, and I did.
When I read the question for this contest, I thought of all the fantastic gifts I've been given over the years, but I think the best one is my birthday cake every year by my mother. It wasn't until I went off to University that I realized not everyone is so fortunate to have such a great gift year after year.
kennedyc@uoguelph.ca
Love this cake!! How fun!! Hmmm... favorite birthday gift? I just love thoughtful gifts! Not just another bottle of wine, but ones that take you by surprise and really shows how great of a friend you have :)
Happy Birthday Sprinkle Bakes!!! That cake is Awesome!!:) Being a mom of 2 kids one of my best birthday gift was a day (alone with no kids) at the spa!! It was amazing and felt ready to face my babies again:)
My birthday is exactly a week before Christmas so I really rarely got gifts that weren't intended as Christmas presents. Best though? My husband got me a pasta extruder last year?
My best birthday present was last year, I gave myself a trip to Yosemite and down the California coast. I hiked for scores of miles on that trip (it is a good thing too, because I need all that activity to burn the calories from my other favorite past time, baking)
Happy Blogtherday!
This cake is incredible! You are so talented, I often wish I had the patience and steady hands for this kind of task! I love baking but if I attempted this it'd probably turn out like the cake Fauna makes in Sleeping Beauty without magic; a big pile of muck!!
I've gotten so many wonderful presents over the years, I'm currently looking forward to my 21st birthday and I've been hinting to my boyfriend that I'd like some baking supplies, I even showed him your blog and told him you have a book coming out soon! I'd absolutely adore this mixer as I'm about to move out on my own and I wont be able to use my moms supplies anymore! Regardless I hope know the mixer will go to a good home, whoever wins it!
Lots of love and birthday blog wishes!!
Pretty!!!! congratulations!
My best birthday gift was a big, multi-purpose Coach bag from my husband. He gave it to me 5 years ago, and I use it all the time.
subscribing at babygoodbuys at gmail.com
The best birthday gift I ever received was my iPad2. I'm such a gadget kind of a girl. My Boyfriend got it for me. We had been on a budget so, no presents for Christmas and the previous birthday. The iPad2 just happened to be released near my birthday and he surprised me with one.
PS: I loooooooove Sixlets, and your cake is gorgeous!!!
Happy Birthday!
The best birthday gift I ever received was a camping trip with my family. Lots of laughter, food, stories and fun; it doesn't get much better than that!
I am a follower and the best gift I have ever received was a sapphire/diamond ring my husband surprised me with. It made me cry!
Following! also, like on Facebook and love to see the newest post.
I am so glad I found you ! What an absoultely beautiful cake you have made ! I love sixlets too ! My best birthday present ever.....hmmmm, it has to be the birth of my daughter, 3 months before my 40th birthday. We had been told by numerous doctors that we would be unable to have any children. We did not give up and after many different doctors, tests and lots of money spent, it all worked out and Hope Elizabeth was born. She is the absolute light of our lives and is now 6 years old. God know what he has planned for us, even if we don't believe something will ever happen, it will, if it's meant to in his time.
Happy Birthday ! And here is to many, many more!!!!!
This birthday was awesome...my kids went to the thrift shop and found a Pyrex snowflake loaf pan, then filled it with candy they bought with their own money. My husband got me the Go-Go's Beauty and the Beat on vinyl, plus a certificate for a prego massage! The real gift tho, was being surrounded by my family and feeling so much love- that is the best gift ever! Thanks for the giveaway! :)
I've gotten some pretty good birthday presents, but I don't think anything will beat what I got on my 4th birthday. My parents brought home my first dog. He's been gone for years now, but he was start of a lifelong love affair with dogs.
My best birthday gift was my 30th birthday. My husband researched and bought me a Bernina Serger! I have since bought two more Bernina's and love them, just wish I had more time to use them.
Best birthday gift: a new phone from my brother!! :)
The best birthday gift ever given to me was a surprise party planed by my friends :D
my fav. b-day gift was a amazon kindle from my husband. However my b-day is coming up, and a mixture would be great.
Congrats on year #2!!! This cake is absolutely admirable and stunning. The best birthday gift I received was from my mother on my 30th birthday when she gave me a gorgeous diamond "journey" necklace. She is my rock. Ha...and she gave me one. lol.
My best birthday gift ever was was when my first daughter was born....just four days before my birthday. The sweetest most precious gift I will ever receive.
The best birthday gift I ever received was my first car. I was a sophomore in college and my sister and her husband bought me a red acura. It was awesome!
Love Love Love the cake! My best birthday gift was an easy bake oven when I was seven. From that moment on my love for baking grew and now I'm enrolled in culinary school!
The best present I ever got was a set of knitting needles. :)
How long did it take you to put all the sprinkles on?
I'm already a subscriber!
The best birthday present for me was a trip to NC to meet some wonderful friends we knew online for years. We had such a blast that whole weekend! For my birthday, they ended up taking me to an Indian restaurant - my first time ever having Indian! It's been a love ever since!
Subscribed!
My best birthday gift ever was a car - makes it a lot easier to go skiing!
Happy Blog Birthday!! I have never heard of Sixlets before, but they sound (and look!) delicious...I'll have to track them down somewhere. :)
My favorite birthday present was from my stepmom. She is an artist and I had been pestering her for awhile to hand paint canisters for my kitchen for me. She had planned on having them done for Christmas but was busy with other items so I FINALLY got them in April for my birthday. They were gorgeous! She painted dragonflies, flowers, and inspirational sayings on black canisters so they will still match if I redecorate! And she ended up making me more than promised so I have neat canisters for almost everything!
Thanks for the amazing giveaway!
I actually received by best birthday present a day late.....my son. :)
I love the idea of using sixlets! We loved the kind that came in a long skinny wrapper when we were kids. My birthdays consist of ever practical gifts- like clothing. However, I am hoping for a shiny Kitchen Aid this year for Christmas. It's been a long time coming.
My best gift was actually from my daughter, it was the first year she was big enough to do something herself. All on her own without help or anyone knowing, she made me a heart (made of pixos) that had great colors (rainbow is her favorite) and it can be hung. I definitely want to try making this sixlet cake for her, sixlets were actually my favorite when I was little.
What a beautiful cake! I don’t think that I would have the patients to individually place all of those sixlets but the end result is just amazing. The best birthday present I have ever gotten was on my 21st all of my friends got together and threw me a surprise lets go out party. Since I was one of the last of my friends to turn 21 it was awesome to be able to go out and hang out with them all!
Ahhh, The best gift was one I gave myself...My Nikon d3000 camera!
P.S. I'm subscribed by e-mail!
Best birthday gift was from my fiance who 6 years ago gave me a hand-made "remember book" to write down memories like "remember when..."
<3Natalie
I have had quite a few very lovely gifts given to me throughout my 29 years - but the absolute best gift has to be a ticket to see the Rolling Stones from my Dad on my 24th birthday. My dad is practically the number one Stones fan...and so I've become a big fan over the years, as well. To celebrate a birthday with my Dad - along with Mick, Keith and the rest of the Stones was just amazing and I will never forget it!
Holy Moly! This cake is amazing! I need to try my hand at one of those! I follow you on google reader so I never miss a post!
The best birthday gift i've received would have to be my first car! It was a wreck however you would have thought that I had a Mercedes-Benz!
The best birthday gift I got myself was my first computer. Hello WORLD! Btw, the cake is off the hook.
Happy Birthday, Sprinkle Bakes! The best birthday gift I have ever received was not actually a gift, but a memory. Being able to spend my 21st birthday in a low-key setting with my father, who passed away 3 months later. I will always cherish the memory of us pigging out together on some yummy cake!
My best birthday gift? Probably my piano. I always wanted to play and my husband got it for me a couple years ago to learn. So fun!
Omg i love givaways! The best gift i recieved were tickets from my husband to see all the world championship skating venues in los angeles, awsome!
Wow! Amazing cake! My best birthday gift ever was a trip to go visit a friend in Italy for a week (we were already in Europe, but still..).
I love this cake! My best birthday gift is something I will be getting this upcoming birthday. At 22 I finally get to go to Disneyland with my family for my birthday. My 23rd birthday will be the best birthday ever :)
The best birthday gift I've ever gotten? That's hard... It's either the nook my parents gave me three years ago, or the Disturbed tickets I got myself this year (their last concert before going on hiatus). :D I can't choose! They're tied.
(I already subscribe to get emails)
Beautiful! I will definitely have to make this for my fiancee's birthday. So much delicious color.
As for my fave birthday present ever: the apron my fiancee sewed for me last year, which I have donned so many times while making all sorts of cupcakes.
A couple years ago I bought myself a Nintendo Wii- definitely cool. I do remember having this awesome carousel cake made for my birthday when I was 4 or 5. My aunt made it for me and it was incredible :)
It's a bit cheesy but the best gift I ever got was my eldest daughter. She was born at night the day before my birthday. I'll never forget waking on my birthday and holding her in my arms.
YAY!! I love blogs. I find them extremely interesting. I have never met the people I follow, however I know so much about you and my other bloggers. I do subscribe to your blog, which is great. When I was young my dad traveled a lot. Gone for months at a time. It was hard on me because he is truly an amazing father. Anyways, He wasn't going to be able to be at my party one year, which are always fun because I am a Halloween baby. However, there was a live Frankenstein at my party!! It was my dad. What a great memory and an awesome gift of seeing the man I will always love.
I signed up for email updates!
First and most importantly Happy Birthday for your wonderful blog. I adore reading your ventures in baking, and I have to say that the cake today is probably enough to satisfy even my sweetest sweet tooth!
My best birthday gift was a kitchen torch my mom and dad gave to me last year. It was something on my wishlist, and they knew how excited I got each time I talked about it. Not only did I get something I had always wanted, but now I could make professional grade desserts from the comfort of my kitchen!
This mixer is beautiful by the way. I don't have one of my own and have to swipe my parents each time I want to mix something up, so this would be an amazing win!
It's more the memories of being surrounded by family and friends than the presents for me. I honestly can't remember what people got me, but I can remember who was there.

I subscribed, but have no clue which selection to choose when commenting. I should probably learn that soon! :)
The best Birthday Gift ever was in 2002. I was newly married and had recently relocated to another state with my husband. We lived on the east coast our whole entire lives, so moving to the west coast was very difficult for me. I had a very difficult time finding employment and it was tough not having my security network of family and friends around. I had also found out that my mom was in the midst of kidney disease and failure, and would need dialysis and a transplant to get well. My husband had interviewed for a job a little before my Birthday, one that would relocate us back to our home state of Florida. He thought it was a long shot due to the experience they wanted, so neither of us thought it was a remote possibility. Low and behold, he was offered the job ON MY BIRTHDAY and I was overwhelmed with joy to be returning home! I was back with my family about 3 months later, and my mom received a transplant two years after that. BEST PRESENT EVER :)
My best birthday gift will hopefully be this cake!
My best birthday gift will be arriving in December for my 21st! I'm spending the year studying abroad in Paris and my boyfriend is going to fly out to come visit me for 2 weeks. I couldn't be more thrilled!
Congrats on your blog birthday! I have to say my favourite bday gift was my sewing machine my hubby got me 5 years ago, it got me into quilting.
The best birthday gift would absolutely be that mixer- I have always dreamed of one just like that! Thank you for offering this amazing giveaway- I am new to your website and just LOVE It.
The best birthday gift ever---would be a kitchen aid stand mixer! Happy Anniversary to you Heather.I started following you when you made the orange spiral cookies with sprinkles of course, and think your goodies are extra cute!
I have a hard time remembering what I get but I can tell you that my birthday is in a little more than a week and my father has decided to take me art supply shopping for my birthday. It's exciting to think of all the fun stuff I'm getting and how fun it's going to be to talk art with my dad.
My best birthday gift, was a lazy day in bed...followed up by loads of dessert at dinner time. Hubby is a chef. What more could a girl ask for. Wine was served in bed too. ; )
best birthday gift i received was a surprise party with just my mom and my cousins from va a day after my college graduation ... just spending time with my family was the best gift and the day before my birthday i gave myself the gift of a college degree... so over all june 2011 was the best for me....
What a fun cake! And my best birthday gift was a ticket to Korea to visit my parents whom I haven't seen in years.
happy anniversary! Today is actually my anniversary at work as well :-)
My best birthday present was tickets to see Wicked on broadway! I love broadway and it was my first ever show. I loved it!!
Great post! Your cakes always look so beautiful!
My best birthday would have to be the first one I spent with my boyfriend. We went out to a nice restaurant and hung out at his house watching movies afterward; simple, yet so much fun!
The best birthday gift I received was a cotton candy machine! I picked it out. This last year, for my 18th birthday, I got a $50 Best Buy gift card. I went there with the intention of buying something for when I move out, because I have no kitchen supplies, or any supplies for that matter, to move out and be on my own. I almost did the responsible thing and bought a microwave which would prove useful in my quest for lone living. I saw that the cotton candy machine was $49! I thought that must be a sign. I had just enough! I called my sister, and she agreed the cotton candy machine would be the best decision....And it was. c: I am sadly still without kitchen supplies and I have been wishing for a Kitchen-Aid for the last 2 years, so please consider me and help me with my aspiring dream to bring the world sweet desserts covered in sprinkles. xox
Happy Blogiversary!
Awesome cake!! Happy Birthday! My most favorite and memorable birthday was when I turned 13 and my Grandmother gave me her antique jewelry box!! It was and still is the best birthday present I could have ever received. It had belonged to her mother before her and was wedding gift to her. She passed almost 9 years now, its been 23 years since that day but I'm still just as happy about it then, as I am now!! :) Thank you for this contest, I haven't thought about MY birthday in along time!! As a mother, wife, daughter, aunt, cousin and friend it seems we always think more about others birthdays! Thanks again! God Bless!
This cake looks so delicious! My best birthday gift is what I am hoping to get for my birthday next month...a new fancy camera!!
This is one of the most amazing cakes I have ever seen!!
Best birthday gift? Maybe it was this year because my husband had lost his job, but started working again just days before my birthday. I know it's not your normal favorite birthday gift, but it was a great gift for me!!
Amazing! It really is an eye-catching cake!
My best birthday gift was created for me by my fiance. He designed a handmade leather wallet with my name and my favorite animal- 2 decorated Indian elephants with intertwined trunks. I get complimented on it all the time and I love that it's one-of-a-kind!
Happy 2nd Blog-iversary!
Found your blog on Twitter and became a follower! My best birthday gift was a surprise trip to Vegas from my husband. :)
long time reader/subscriber over here. *smiles*
the best birthday gift i ever received was my sweet little bitty ruger pistol, from my husband. ^_^
Boy, this cake is beautiful! I adore Sixlets and am so happy to see them used in such a unique way! I'd have to say the best gift I have ever received was my engagement ring. It sounds silly, but it was grandmother's so it has such a special meaning for me. It was a dual gift from both my future husband and grandmother, who I never had the chance to meet.
WOW! That cake is GRAND! I want to make it for my papa for his birthday! Uh-mazing! For me, the greatest gift I received was from my hubby on my 30th birthday. We were in our second year volunteering in West Africa and he surprised me to a trip to Italy! It was amazing, romantic, surprising, and more than I could have ever asked for! He is the love of my life! We stayed in a tiny hotel that lost it's power frequently and lived off of delicious pizza for 5 days! Ha! I will always treasure it. <3
My best gift was a sparkly banana seat bike on my 10th birthday. I wish I still had that bike.
Okay, so my best birthday gift ever would have to be the surprise baby shower held for me! My little girl was born 12 days later!!!! However, this new mixer would come in a close second.....Happy Early Birthday to ME?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?????
Love, Love, LOVE this blog....I am definitely a new fan!!!
Happy Blog Birthday!
Gorgeous cake, as always!
The best gift I have ever received was a birthday cake baked by a non-baking friend. It was a rare treat as nobody ever bakes for me. I knew so much thought and love went into it! Unforgettable!
Hooray! That cake is amazing, we are both Heather's--I found you through How Sweet--to say I want a mixer is a giant understatement and it just might be my lucky comment. My best birthday gift was a handmade hope chest that my parents both made for me. Unfortunately I was 16 and at the time all I could think about was getting a car and a big block of wood didn't cut it for me and I hid my disappointment not so easily. I never really did thank my parents properly for working SO hard on that hope chest that had my name engraved and everything. But I can say for certain, that's the best ever. :) (crossing my fingers!) heatherguzha (at) gmail (dot) com
Yay birthdays! I think my best birthday gift was probably an early birthday gift in the form of a diamond... engagement ring. My now-husband is an excellent gift giver, and he started out right!
Best birthday gift? An engagement ring & a promise to love me forever from the most amazing man in the world! (10 years later & he has kept that promise every single day!)
The best gift i have ever received - my son and daughter
The best gift ever was my food processor!
Best Birthday gift I ever received was last year from my husband. He surprised me with a limo ride for myself, him, our kids and some of my closest friends and their husbands and kids and treated us all to dinner. I knew we were going to dinner as a family but suddenly everyone parked behind my car and a limo pulled up. A few days later he sent me to NY (my first trip without my kids! YAY and well needed) to visit one of my very best friends (also my first trip to NY) It was by far the best birthday ever!!!
ps i wish i had thought of this cake for my daughters birthday last May- we had a polka dot theme and we had bowls of sixlets but never thought to put them on the cake!
Happy blog birthday! Coincidentally I've been dreaming of a stand mixer for quite some time! LOL I'd have to say my favorite gift ever was the cat my bf got me for my birthday a few year back...that and the pyrex dishes he got me this past year. I'm pretty easy to shop for LOL
My best birthday gift to myself was running a marathon 1 week before my 30th birthday. The same year, I also received a 12-month subscription to the peanut butter of the month club! BEST GIFT EVER.
My best birthday present ever was a trip to Vegas from my parents for my 21st! No trip since has been able to live up to that one!
OMG! I love the cake you made last year!
My best birthday gift was one I received only last year was a beautiful cake pan that makes baking a breeze and it set me on the path to cake obsession!
I don't get gifts. I'm sure I did as a little girl, but now as a mommy and wife... I just don't get gifts :( I have to dig deep in the memory archive for this one. My 3rd birthday I got a strawberry shortcake doll that has a cherished place in my room to this day.
All of that being said... I just found this blog today. LOVE IT! Sprinkle on, dear.
The best birthday present I ever got was the newest fluffy baby to the bunch, my cat, Bastian. He LOVES to sit at the entry way between the kitchen and dining (or a stool in the kitchen) and interject his opinion when I'm cooking. (I'm not crazy, he's a loud one!) Meow this and meow that through the clattering of pots and pans.
the best bday present was finding out i was pregnate!
I've been following your blog for sometime now Happy Blogday!!!! The best birthday present i would say that i have ever got was my Ipad2 which i am so absolutely in love with, if it wasn't for that i would have never found your wowerful lol blog and realized my absolute love for baking.
My favorite gift was a surprise party my dad threw for me for my 16th birthday. He was a single dad and worked really hard on keeping it a surprise and making it the most awesome gift ever!
My favorite birthday present wasn't really one gift. It was a party my German and American friends threw for me while I was living abroad in Germany. It was a funfilled night with lots of dancing, drinks, and gifts. It was my 23rd birthday and I will never for it.
I subscribe on Facebook! My best birthday present was my puppy my husband got me this year!! I love him!! I already have been looking into baking for doggies too!
Jessica at How Sweet It Is referred me here...OMG. The two of you together = gaining 8,402 pounds. Best birthday gift...sewing machine from my parents a couple years ago. I use it all the time!
Absolutely love your cake! The patience you must have to put all those sixlets on!!!
Happy Birthday blog :)
My best birthday gift was probably my new Nikon Macro Lens!
Ah-Maz-Ing cake. If I got that cake for my birthday it would be a gift in itself! Since I haven't got that cake, sadly, my best birthday was my 21st because it was the first birthday I got to spend with my son. Best gift possible.
Holy moley, that's quite a cake! Do the sixlets fall off when you cut it?
I'm subscribed, and I really want a new saxophone to replace my good old student model now that I'm an adult and still playing, for money even! I can't quite bring myself to buy it for myself since its a lot of money, so I keep talking about it hoping the hubby will get the hint. ;)
I think my best birthday present was three years ago when my boyfriend got me my first "girly" present. He had always been too afraid to pick out clothes or jewelry for me so he would buy me movies or video games instead. :) But that year he picked out a beautiful dress all on his own and I was so excited! I still think of this every time I put it on.
Happy blogoversary!!
Following you on GFC.
Best birthday present was a Kitchen Aid mixer on my 18th birthday! Loved it & used it all the time! Unfortunately 12 yrs later and 3 cross country moves, it's no longer in my possession.
Who knows though, maybe I'll win this one! :-)
Happy Birthday! Birthdays are the best days of the year that's for sure. The best birthday gift I ever received was a surprise homemade 5 layer white cake made by my best friend. She also threw in a zebra scarf which matched the cake. She knows me so well.
Heather,
I so admire this cake! The time spent to place all those Sixlets alone is impressive!
My best birthday gift hasn't happened yet but it will in 2012 - I'm a musician and I've decided to take myself to South By Southwest next year!
As always, I love your blog. It's stunning. Happy Birthday!
-Z
my friend Aimee always makes the best birthday cakes for me. I love'd the cubs one she made a couple of years ago!
First I have to congratulate you on your blog turning two years old!! How exciting :)I wish you success and sprinkles forever.
I'd also like to mention, what a gorgeous cake - the sixlets really make a difference in the sprinkles - just lovely.
Last- the best birthday present i've ever been given is a trip to Disney World - - my family surprised me for my 21st birthday. It truly was magical.
The best birthday gift I received was a trip to Florida with my dad to travel around and watch different team's baseball spring training. It was so fun, and while we were there, we went to Disney World!
When my husband and I first started dating, I told him about a particularly awful birthday, when my mom actually forgot my birthday. He recreated my birthday and gave me the gift j wanted that year. It was no special gift, but that was the birthday I will never forget.
Beautiful! Best birthday gift was the year we bought our house near my birthday! :)
Without a doubt, the best birthday gift I've gotten was a camera- I used it a few months later to take a million photos of my newborn daughter!
That cake looks delicious!
Best birthday present was probably just 2 years ago when I went out for lunch with my boyfriend ^_^ it was my first ever birthday lunch with him and i just happened to have a horrible cold! (I always get sick near my birthday) But being with him made me feel tons better!
The best birthday gift I ever received was what made me the woman I am today: my parents decided to fulfill my wish to study abroad in Japan (I studied it in college) and sent me on my way as a 21st birthday gift. But it wasn't the plane tickets or the tuition that really mattered. It was the look on my parents' faces as they told me what they were doing. "You are old enough to find your own path, and realize that there is nothing that can stop you. Follow your heart." And I did. And while the beginning of the trip was difficult (lost luggage, no cell phone or way for them to contact me for the first few days, culture shock), they spurred me onward, reminding me that I had become 21, I was not longer a child, and with the gift of adulthood would come the grace to get through tough times. My experience overseas changed me in so many ways -- I look at life very differently, not as a straight and careful road but as a wide open field that stretches endless in every direction, and in order to find fulfillment you need to run free and experience what you will. If my parents hadn't give me that nudge, I don't know if I would be the same person I am today.
What a beautiful cake!!
I can definitely say the best birthday gift I have received was on my 15th birthday my parents gave me a bottlecap purse with my first cell phone inside! I had no idea the phone was there until my dad called and I heard it ring!
The best birthday gift I got was getting to be home with my family for my birthday! I live across the country from them and don't get to see them near often enough.
The best birthday gift I ever got was a sweet little puppy named Timmy five years ago. He was the light of my life...until I had my son:)
i subscribed via google friend connect :)
the best b irthday gift i ever received was a tattoo. it meant a lot to me and i couldn't afford it at the time so it was given to me as a gift. i was a happy camper.
jpinnick86 (at) gmail.com
The best birthday gift I've gotten was a jewelry treasure box. It looks like an old wooden chest, just smaller. It smells of lavender and holds some really special things of mine.
Best birthday gift was a trip to Las Vegas on my 21st! Loved it!
Yummy Cake!!!
Best birthday gift was a trip to Disneyland from my husband!!
wow! WizKid would love this. What a dream cake indeed.
I look forward to finally getting your posts on my homepage.
As for my best birthday present... it would have to be my first cruise ever last year for my 40th birthday.
My whole family was in attendance and it was so memorable!
My favorite gift: my first pair of cowgirl boots...I was 8
Wow! That is an amazing looking cake! Thanks to how sweet it is for posting on her facebook about you! I'm glad I found and subscribed to your site!
The best gift was one that my children made me. They knew I love blueberries so they created a blueberry cake (with their Dad's help). They totally made up the recipe but it was great and from their hearts.
The best birthday gift I've ever gotten was this year's gift from my dad. I turned 21 so he and my step mom sent me 21 little presents, all individually wrapped in a giant package. It was a lot of fun, and all of the gifts were things I love!
This is so gorgeous! I can't get over all the amazing colors!
The best birthday gift was one I gave to myself. A year and a half ago, I not only celebrated my 30th birthday, but also my last day of law school all in one night! We had quite the memorable bash! :) And even though I've gotten many wonderful gifts over the years, giving myself my JD just can't ever be topped.
Happy 2 years, Sprinkle Bakes! I LOVE this blog!
My best gift was marrying my best friend 6 days before I turned 22 in 2008. Now, I get to relive that gift every year on our anniversary! :o)
What a totally awesome cake! I love it.
The best b-day present I ever got was a homemade quilt that a good friend made for me with squares made by friends and family members. Such an amazing present and it totally takes me back to that time in my life when I pull it out.
What an amazing cake! Such a great idea. I'd have to say the best birthday present I ever received was just being able to celebrate it with my husband who'd come home from Iraq just a month before. Hoping it'll happen again in about 6 months!
