Today’s the day!
It’s the official release date of Sea Salt Sweet: The Art of Using Salts for the Ultimate Dessert Experience. And wow –what a delicious year it’s been baking and writing this book. I can’t wait for you to bake from it, too.

At heart, this book is about creating fantastic, memorable desserts by combining the ultimate flavor combination: salt and sweet. I give sea salts special focus because they are flavorful and more widely available than ever before! All of the recipes focus on using salt in a mindful way to produce desserts with true ‘wow’ factor. The following composite picture is just a small sampling of the types of recipes you’ll find in the book (those brownies – omg!).

Buttered Popcorn Panna Cotta; Chocolate Chunk Kettle Chip Cookies |
Today we’re celebrating this book launch with cake and presents, which is pretty much how I celebrate every special occasion (no sense in breaking tradition, right?). Plus, a few of my blogging friends are helping me spread the word by giving away copies of the book, too! Be sure to click the links at the end of this post for more chances to win. Some bloggers even made recipes, so you can get a closer look at some of the sweets.
Here’s what’s in store for a few lucky readers!

- Brushed Stainless CIA Professional Series Vitamix (Retail $498): One winner. This is a life-changing kitchen tool! I value it just as much as my KitchenAid stand mixer. This one comes with two cookbooks and an instructional DVD. (Read all the specshere.)
- The Sea Salt Sweet Book, of course! 3 copies to 3 lucky readers.
- Mosser 10″Jadeite Cake Stand (Retail $65): One winner. Just like the one Coastal Living paired with my book in their October issue – so gorgeous!
- The Spice Lab Gourmet Salt Collection (Retail $50): One winner. You certainly don’t NEED all of these salts to bake with Sea Salt Sweet, but you’ll definitely find a few of my favorites from the book in this fun collection.
To enter, leave a comment at the bottom of this blog post telling me about your favorite salty sweet. The winners will be chosen randomly and announced in this blog post (so check back!). Contest ends November 14th – open worldwide!
For an extra entry, spread the word about Sea Salt Sweet! Tweet, Facebook, G+, Pinterest or Instagram with the hashtag #seasaltsweet, and leave a comment letting me know that you did.
The contest is closed – congratulations to the winners!

I created this Double Frosted Salted Caramel-Mocha Cake in honor of the book release, but since it has several steps I think it needs its own blog post. Be sure to check back tomorrow for the recipe. It’s truly delicious and the sprinkle of Maldon flake sea salt on top makes it outstanding!

Not very sophisticated, but when at the movies, I like a box of Milk Duds with my popcorn.
My favorite salty sweet snack is a simple and not homemade one – dark chocolate sea salt bars. If we're talking homemade, I make vanilla chocolate chip scones that have a nice surprise bite of salt now and then… but they aren't terribly sweet. Oh! Or shortbread wth a kick of salt.. or…
… now I'm hungry.
I love chocolate sea salt caramels. I could eat them every day … always. Yum!

I could eat salted caramel straight off the spoon. But I have to admit that my favorite salty sweet is my moms strawberry pretzel jello. Those chip cookies got me drooling!!!
