Peanut-Honey Pupcakes

Peanut-Honey Pupcakes

It’s Churro’s birthday!

Well, sort of.

We don’t really know when his birthday is.  And we don’t know exactly how old he is either, but we still like to celebrate the day we welcomed him into our family. Churro is a rescue –yes, a pound puppy.  His history is somewhat of a mystery to us, but we were told that he came from a pretty bad situation. You’d never know that from his demeanor. He’s the sweetest real-life teddy bear you’ll ever meet! And he instantly fit right in with Biscuit-the-pug and our three kitty-cats. Words cannot express how gentle and loving he is.  It breaks my heart that there are so many animals of similar docility that get taken to the shelter.  I don’t like to think about that too much, but I felt that I must mention it.

Maybe someone out there looking for a furbaby will remember Churro’s happy ending and decide to rescue.

Peanut-Honey Pupcakes

Both pups went absolutely NUTS over these Peanut-Honey Pupcakes.   I’ve never seen them so excited!  And I have to admit- they smelled pretty darn good fresh from the oven.  I used natural peanut butter (no sugar, low sodium) and some good quality local honey.  To make absolutely sure no one mistook these for people food, I added a peanut butter dog biscuit to the tops before baking.

These pictures of your Churro are too cute. He actually looks disappointed in the first picture that there is only one cupcake laid before him! Happy Birthday to your Churro.

Oh I love Churro! The sweetest face! We rescued an Airedale, Elwood, 13 years ago. Sadly our pound puppy passed last fall. But he will always be part of our family. We're now left with our other little rescue that's supposed to be a Cairn Terrier, but we're not sure about that. He's a love though. Love your pupcakes and your blog! So happy to have found it. Delicious Wishes!

Happy birthday to Churro! I agree with you- as I also have 3 dogs – 2 of each, i rescued and 1 was given when the owner cannot take care. Just wondering – is it alright to give peanuts to dogs?

Very cute! We are lazy and celebrate our plethora of pets' birthdays on Christmas morning. Maybe this year I'll buck up and make the kitties some fish biscuits!

I just got and read your book yesterday evening. It's VERY nice. Besides bright and beautiful, obviously, I like how heavy it is. It feels good in the hands like a book should. Thanks again!

What adorable photos! Reading the ingredients, I don't see any reason why a person couldn't eat them… I wonder how they taste!

I may just have to whip up a batch for my pig… 😉

cannot even stress how much i love the name churro for a pug! also– we made our pups squirrel-shaped dog biscuits for their shared birthday (we just declared a day for our rescue dogs)… next year- pupcakes for certain!

(also: i hope he made little snorty, rooty noises when eating out of the wrapper. he's a pug, so i assume yes!)

Every time you post something, featuring Churro, his sweet face makes me smile. He is a very lucky dog, indeed, and I'm sure he's given you lots of love back. Fun recipe– but, alas, I don't own a dog at the moment. I hope to, again.

Churro is absolutely precious. I bet my dog would go nuts for these too since she eats anything in a matter of seconds. I bet all 12 (or 24) pupp-cakes would be gone in a matter of minutes; she scarfs food down like she'll never eat again.

And is it weird to say that I'm a little jealous of your pugs? Because for a doggy birthday treat, these look really good…o.O

Hi Heather! Our puppy is also rescue, but not from the pound, some friends found him in a plastic bag in a garbage bin in the street. WHO could want to throw such a cute puppy away is beyond me. I had no idea dogs could eat peanut butter, I'll give this recipe a try! I LOVE your photos, he looks so adorable! And I love that you give the celebration of his coming into your life the importance it deserves…

All the best, and thanks for all the inspiration,
Noelle (blog fiestafacil, in Spain)
