Life Lately Behind the Scenes

Hello friends, bakers, and fellow dessert-makers! I thought it might be fun for you to see what I've been up to lately. Namely, there's a book trailer in the works for Sea Salt Sweet!
In the picture above I'm trying to look like a normal not-nervous person, but we all know that pictures can be deceiving. The thing you can't see is that hours before this snap, I'd broken a dozen eggs on my kitchen floor and then accidentally stepped in the mess, which made me slide across the room and end up on the floor. Hello giant upper arm bruise! Hello Martha Stewart-esque button-down shirt to hide said bruise. I was still feeling shaken and camera shy to boot, but absolutely without question I had best production team who made me feel safe and special and yes - maybe even a little normal (smile).
That's Dan in the upper left hand corner. He's the guy in charge (you can see more of his amazing work here). Let me tell you, his smiling face made it one million times easier to get through the audio portion. Kayla (upper right) did a little of everything: audio, video, and general pointer to sexy food shots. "Hey there's some chocolate sauce dripping over here - somebody wanna shoot this?!" Jake (lower left) did a bit of interviewing for the audio portion, and I appreciated his soft-spoken nature. He was also camera operator extraordinaire, having to lift and hold a sizable camera stabilizer rig throughout the entire shoot.
And! The first hard cover copy of the book landed on my doorstep recently, and it's even more beautiful than I could have hoped for! It is absolutely packed with delicious, approachable recipes. I just can't wait for everyone to use it! I was so glad to have a copy to bring to the shoot.
Dan borrowed a kitchen for us while my own kitchen goes through some growing pains. I was instantly comfortable in the kitchen, and the owner had two little puggies! I felt right at home.
It was amazing to get to see these people work. Without a doubt, they are perfectionists and it's obvious that they love what they do. It was a long day for everyone, and we ended up wrapping at one in the morning. Everyone worked so hard and I can't wait to share the end result!

(Special thanks to my husband who manned the DSLR and took all the shots you're seeing here.)
