It's Here! The SprinkleBakes Book and a KitchenAid Giveaway!

Today's the day!

It's the official publication day for the SprinkleBakes book! I'm so excited and more than a little nervous! Every other post on my blog will feature a recipe, but today I wanted to tell you a little bit about what I've been pouring so much love and work into over the past year.  I really hope it lives up to everything you'd expect - your encouragement from the very start of this blog has meant so much to me and has made this day possible.

Hopefully this will answer your burning questions: inside you'll find 77 recipes. Of those, 36 are basics that every baker and dessert enthusiast will want in their recipe arsenal. This section is called "Blank Canvases" because these recipes can be endlessly varied with flavor, color and shape. I return to these simple and approachable basics again and again. Use them to create a confectionery work of art, or just to satisfy a craving!

I've said before that this is an art-meets-baking book, but what does that mean? The creative recipes in this book are listed under chapters called Line, Sculpture, Color, and Mixed Media. Preceding the recipes in each of these sections you'll find - art lessons!  From brush primers to sculptural cake carving instructions, this book teaches you how to think like an artist. A few recipes are elaborate, but many are easy to make, and I give plenty of templates.

At heart, this book is about taking the things in life that inspire you, and recreating them in your baking. It's about making the most of your time in the kitchen and being able to share something delicious and memorable with those you love.

As my publisher tells me, launching a book these days is hard work. So if you're willing to help me spread the word, I'd be more than grateful. You'd be a big help if you'd care to tell a friend, tweet, post an Amazon or Goodreads review, or anything else.  I'm told every bit counts!

To help celebrate, I'm giving away 5 copies of the book, plus a KitchenAid Professional 6-quart stand mixer!

How to enter:
  • Leave a comment below - tell me what inspires you!  Maybe it's a loaf of freshly baked bread, a pretty dress, your children, a good movie... it can be anything!
  • Please be sure to leave an email address or some way to reach you if you win!
  • Deadline for entry is Monday, May 7th.
  • Winners will be chosen at random and announced in this post and on the SprinkleBakes Facebook page on Tuesday, May 8th.

My little brother inspires me, he usually nag every saturday for me to bake, he bakes with me too! We love to bake some simple brownies, macaroons too, although we failed everytime, he won't give up and tell me to keep trying. he always complain about some 'feetless' and too sweet macarons :) (maggie_1996@live.com)

I started baking each time I would visit my nieces interstate to help create memorable moments with them. I remember the first cake was a yellow moon crescent cake, we went on to make such things as a porcupine, bugs bunny, and flower cake.
My passion for baking has grown since those early days but sometimes the lack of a mixer does restrict my cooking.
I'd love to try your recipes and do them justice with an added mixer.
Best of luck with the book release!

Living inspires me. I recently got diagnosed type I diabetic two days before Christmas and as a baking enthusiast, it seemed like a cruel joke considering one cup of sugar has 200g of carbs. That being said, I'm so inspired every day as I realize that this might not have been what I planned my life to be, but I can still do everything I love. I can still bake goodies and bring them to work, and I can still sample what I've made. I just may have to take insulin to do it. :)

Even though I am a very visual person and love the art of decorating deserts, I have to say that scent is a huge inspiration to me. From the way a fresh, Spring rain smells, or the scent of a rose, to the warm aroma of oatmeal raisin cookies baking in the oven. Each scent evokes a memory and emotion, and can inspire new thoughts, new designs, and the incentive to make new memories.

so what inspires me..... smiles, full belly's, and my two guys who need a little extra love. ( which is what i tell them every time i bake. I baked this with love!) bakedwithlovewi@gmail.com

Everything inspires me in some way!
I see the flowers starting to bloom right now and I picture them on a cake or cupcake or cookie! I see the eagles flying over the river in front of my office and they swoop down to catch a fish, and I think how stunning that would be on cake! I see the little girls at the dance studio in their bright colored leotards, tights, and tutus and I visualize the colors and textures and how I can fit them into my next project! My family thinks I am crazy some days when I point to something and comment about how that would be awesome as ______ (fill in the blank with cookie, cupcake, or cake!) I think it becomes a passion when everything around you inspires you in some way!

Good Morning Heather!
Congrats on your book. I have requested a copy from my daughters for Mother's Day. I am always inspired by my 3 daughters. I was a single Mom for 13 year. They inspired me every day to make a better world for them and myself. They all like to bake and create in the kitchen and we have created some wonderful memories. Today...the youngest is in her 4th year of Nursing, the second is in Ireland working and traveling, the eldest works for Cardiologist and will undergo 12 hour back surgery June 4th...she has Scoliosis, Kyfosis, and CP...but she has a great attitude. I consider myself to be very blessed!!

I love your recipes and have sent some to my daughter in Ireland to make for her Irish friends. Looking forward to more of your fantastic recipes. Thank you Heather!

Hey. First of all congratulations on your publication. I love what you do, really.
I am inspired to make my own creation working at least thought. Sometimes looking at a book or even on the street or to see an object.
Thank you very much. A greeting.

Hola. Primero que nada felicitarte por tu publicación. Me encanta lo que haces, en serio.
Yo me inspiro para hacer mis elaboraciones de creación propia en lo menos pensado. A veces viendo un libro o incluso en la calle o al ver un objeto.
Muchas gracias. Un saludo.

You know, while my family and friends constantly inspire me, my favorite moments of inspiration come from people I hardly know. Whether it's chatting with someone met in a coffee shop or hearing the life story of a patron at work, I'm constantly surprised by the level of imagination in other people, as well as their so varied and colorful backgrounds, and it often inspires me into new ideas or stories to write. Maybe it's because we so rarely think of lives outside our own spheres, but it always happily startles me.
I also love using people as inspiration to cook or bake, if for no other reason for that moment when they roll their eyes in delicious delight when they take their first taste. That always makes me happy - feeding people!

Heather, your recipes inspire me! As a gal in her mid-20's with very little kitchen skill (seriously, my brother who is 5 years my junior had to teach me how to make grilled cheese when I was 16!) your creative flair in the kitchen makes me want to learn how to make nearly every recipe you've ever posted. I'm even thinking of trying my hand at the strawberry milk cheesecake for my birthday on the 31st ;)

I'd love to win a copy of your book! My email is harlequineyes[at]gmail[dot]com.

I am so inspired by my grandmother. She has gotten me baking or cooking utensils for every holiday and birthday since I was 13 and she has done a lot to make sure I am creative in the kitchen. I hold her recipes near and dear to my heart as well as the ones I have created on my own thanks to her encouragement. I could not be where I am today as far as cooking and baking if it were not for my grandma.

I'm inspired by my mom, aunt and grandma. These three women are full of such strength, with my aunt and grandma losing the loves of their lives. My mom for helping her mom and sister during their trying times, for the daily hardships she goes through with a smile, and for raising me and my 2 sisters beautifully. These women inspire me to become braver, stronger, and to appreciate everything in life a little more.

Congrats on the new cookbook! Can't wait to get my hands on it and start baking

I am inspired by my kitten. Nothing slows her down, even though she was born with 4 deformed legs. Being a Vet Tech, I see animals overcome so many obstacles with ease. They never stop to think about how life could have been, or how it could be easier. They just accept what is there, and continue on. I think we could all learn from that!

My mom inspired me. She passed away in August of 2009 from lung cancer. But her life has been a lasting inspiration to be even half the mother that she was. She raised my sister and I alone in the 60's on waitress tips after leaving a very physically abusive marriage...not something women did in those days. She remarried in the 70's and took on 4 children from his previous marriage, then had another little girl. She worked hard, gave each of us a good, firm foundation for the rest of our lives and made the most of every moment she was given. She was an amazing mother and the most inspiring woman I have ever known. She taught me to cook, to bake and to love my family. I miss her more every day than I ever thought possible. Every time I bake a birthday cake for a young client or a wedding cake for a happy couple, I feel her looking down on me and pray I'm making her proud.

I am inspired to bake by knowing every time I bake for someone I am helping a sick child from a 3rd world country come to the US for medical care. It brings me joy that your sweet, beautiful desserts help me with this cause! Keep up the great work, Sooo excited about your cookbook
